about
This song was written in the house I grew up in, in Lansing Illinois. One August evening, when I was visiting my mom, at that time, getting on in years, and needing care of her own, this song came to me. As I sat in reflection on the memories, the laughter, the tears, and the love that home held, I was flooded with the impetus to write these words
Our mom loved Tennessee, and took us kids hiking in the Smokies. Fond and beautiful times. She always wanted to go back, maybe even move there, and ever encouraged us to "go explore" . I hold that advice in my heart, and when I feel I need to escape, explore, and be free, I can thank my roots in music, the outdoors and travel for where I end up
lyrics
Love, Love surrounds me
Too many places, I’m falling apart
And that sweet, sweet adoration
You dropped the bomb on me
I can’t take it
Tell Me
Why don’t we just take up the wind
Roll me on down to Tennessee
Why don’t we just take up the wind
For that Sweet soul train sure looks good to me
Open to Sounds. Sweet sounds of summer
And the changes that are to come
And my mother’s tears. Oh, she looks so lonely
I want to comfort her and keep her warm
Chorus
Oh now, Brother, brother
Hold my hand
You caught me slipping when I was sinking down
And that sweet wine pouring in the evening
We’re singing songs, songs, songs that call me home
